politics

Chief Minister K
Chandrasekhar Rao proposed the change of name of the party to foray into
national politics and it has been unanimously approved by TRS general body.
At the dot of 1.19 pm Dasara day
Wednesday, October 5, 2022, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao signed the
papers changing the name of his political party TRS to BRS at Telangana Bhavan
here in Hyderabad.
KCR read out the
historic resolution in the presence of party general body and flanked by former
Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (S) leader, H D Kumaraswamy, who is in
city along with 20 odd MLAs and TRS Secretary General Dr K Keshava Rao besides
other senior party leaders.
KCR announced:
"Telangana Rastra Samithi party has conducted its general body meeting on
5.10.2022 at its party headquarters in Hyderabad. The party general body
meeting unanimously resolved to change the name of the party from Telangana
Rashtra Samithi to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) with a view to extend its
activities nation-wide. Accordingly, the constitution of party is also
amended."
The party leaders
burst into claps and greeted the Chief Minister. Kumaraswamy immediately
presented a yellow color shawl to KCR. Over 280 party executive members
including MPs, MLAs attested the resolution to change the name of TRS to Bharat
Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
The resolution
papers and approval by TRS general body will be presented to Election
Commission of India in New Delhi tomorrow by TRS legal team accompanied by
senior party leader B Vinod Kumar, ex-MP, it is learnt
Besides,
Kumaraswamy, two MPs belonging to Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Dalit
leader Thirumavalavan, some farmers leaders and host of TRS leaders were
present. Most of the leaders said that their aim was BJP. Kumaraswamy said
"the main aim is to put up a united fight against BJP. It's a combination
of various regional parties who come together by rising above their political differences."
Thirumavalavan on
his Twitter said he was in Hyderabad at the invitation of Chief Minister K
Chandrasekhar Rao for launch of BRS. He greeted Rao for his foray into national
politics, VCK is in alliance with ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu. Several TRS Ministers
including T Harish Rao, T Srinivas Yadav and others greeted KCR.
Now the focus will
who would head the new BRS party and will CM KCR hand over CM gaddi to KTR or
not?
TRS was formed on
April 27, 2001 to achieve Statehood for Telangana and successfully got
Telangana on June 2, 2014. Not only, that KCR who lead the Telangana struggle,
ensured big for his party twice and became Chief Minister.
Though there were
rumors of KCR floating a new national political party, the confusion it might
create in the runup to elections and legal complications, favoured renaming of
the party.
Chief Minister and
TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao's proposal was unanimously approved by the TRS
general body and the entire TRS leadership including Ministers, MPs, MLAs,
MLCs, DCCB Chairpersons, DCMS chairpersons and others.
Former Karnataka
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy along with a team besides some farmers leaders
met the Chief Minister on the occasion.
While ruling
regional parties in the country haven't made any commitment to KCR to join his
bandwagon, it is learnt KCR has approached some smaller parties in the country
for merger with BRS or alliance in the run up to polls. Operation Andhra
Pradesh has already begun.
It was political
festive atmosphere on the auspicious Dasara festival day at the Pragati Bhavan,
the official residence of Chief Minister Somajiguda and Telangana Bhavan, the
TRS party headquarters in Banjara Hills.
The entire stretch
of road was decorated with flags, cutouts, posters of TRS turning into BRS and
launch of national political party. Life size cutouts of KCR dotted entire
stretch of road. As Chief Minister left his official residence for Telangana
Bhavan around 12.30 pm after a meeting with party leaders and sought their
approval for turning TRS into BRS, scores of party workers raised "KCR
zindabad," "Desh Ki (read Ka) KCR.
BRS party office
has been opened in New Delhi on SP road while a new building is under
construction. KCR legal team along with B Vinod Kumar will meet Election
Commission officials tomorrow to formally submit application for the change of
name of TRS into BRS.
TRS is aiming
Southern States first for expansion to ensure National party recognition,
especially neighboring States first like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and
Maharashtra. Focus is also on Raichur, in Hyderabad Karnataka, Bidar, Nanded in
Maharashtra.
Elsewhere, when a
reporter asked to comment on KCR's decision to launch national party, former
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu parried the
question with a smile.
